Hello! I'm looking for my next certification. I'm considering either the Risk Management Certification, PgMP or the new PMO Certification.  What would you recommend? Do you have another suggestion? I currently have a PMP, MBA, and Six Sigma Black Belt.

Each time I decided to spend money and effort in a certification I make my own estimation about future market demands and/or take a better position in my actual work place. Because of that I have 3 certifications from PMI (PMP, PMI-ACP, PMI-PBA) and 3 SAFe certifications. The last ones because my previous work place. So, that´s my way of thinking that, as you can see, sometimes can work and sometimes could not work. At the end, just estimation.

A credential should always support your near or longer term aspirations. What roles or goals do you have? Those should help you narrow down things...

Erika, Both credentials that you’ve mentioned are great but you should choose the credential that complements your career path and goals.

Thank you all for the feedback! I think in the short-term the RMP makes sense and then moving on longer term to PgMP and then eventually the PMO cert.

I'm managing software implementations now, but one day hope to manage a team of PMs and more strategic projects.

Thanks again!

@Erika, I'm currently evaluating myself, at one point i took all requirements needed for PMI-ACP , but i paused and started exploring PgMP, which is most likely my next certification, i am PMP and Systems Engineer, I believe it totally depends on what you plan for future work , Since you are already PMP , i believe we are pretty good a managing some good size projects. And me being an engineering I juggle with Programs that are trickling down to projects with agile mindset. So, i chose PgMP.

I believe if you have lot of projects adding up to programs and there is no individual doing it, that would be a great move , you being an MBA is a + .

Erika, you appear to have an interest in project management offices. PMOs are highly respected assets that tie into the need for business transformation in many organizations today. As a PMP, you are already managing project teams. If you also have experience as a general manager, especially in projects aimed at digital transformations, a medium or longer term goal of gaining PMO experience and going for the certification makes a lot of sense.

I also highly recommend The Brightline Transformation Compass | Brightline Initiative to help you keep an eye on strategic alignment and business benefits realization.
