Cheikh lisslam Ennahoui Engineering Project Manager| SMART MS Nouakchott, Mauritania

Hello,

I recently obtained my PMP certification, a goal I have been wanting to achieve for about a year. Now that I have accomplished this, I am in a dilemma about what to do next.

I am a project manager from Mauritania, with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. I have over three years of experience managing various projects of different industries in my current role, including a significant tier III data center project that was my most significant one. However, I have been wanting to leave my current company since last year due to various issues, including the work environment. Given that the PMP certification isn't highly valued in the country and job offers are rare, I have been considering finding opportunities abroad.

I have studied in France and Morocco, so I have experience living abroad and am open to relocation. However, it seems that companies and job offers might not consider my application seriously since my current address is in Mauritania. I have also been hesitant about whether to concentrate my job search in the Middle East, the US, or other countries.

I would appreciate your insights on my situation.

Thank you,

Cheikh Lisslam Ennahoui

While PMP doesn't guarantee a job opportunity, it does open up more opportunities. The best thing to do now is to keep searching and exploring while maintaining continuous learning. With enhanced knowledge and experience, opportunities will eventually come.

Landing a role in a different country can be quite challenging unless they are experiencing a shortage of qualified project managers.

My advice would be to either leverage your direct network and have someone who knows you well who relocated to a different country put your resume in front of a hiring manager (as opposed to a "cold" application) OR do you research, pick your top country, visit there as a tourist for a few weeks and try to line up as many in person interviews as possible while you are there.
