Critical thinking will be an indispensable soft skill for future Project Managers. In an increasingly complex and rapidly changing business environment, Project Managers will need to analyze situations from multiple angles, evaluate diverse sources of information, and make well-reasoned decisions. This skill will enable them to identify potential risks and opportunities that may not be immediately apparent, leading to more effective project planning and execution. Critical thinking will also help Project Managers navigate ambiguity and adapt their strategies when faced with unexpected challenges or changes in project scope. Moreover, it will enhance their ability to solve complex problems creatively, question assumptions, and propose innovative solutions that can drive project success in an evolving technological landscape. By honing their critical thinking skills, Project Managers will be better equipped to lead their teams through uncertainty and deliver value in the face of future challenges. Just like you stated, we'll need more soft skills, particularly critical thinking skills and emotional intelligence.
To navigate the future filled with news of both opportunities and threats, without a sane way of viewing the world, it's easy to get overwhelmed. And even made redundant.
The skills will be the same but the specific importance of any one skill will vary based on the context the PM faces. I'd expect that until we have a hybrid working model where humans AND robots are acting as team members on human-led projects, the existing bodies of knowledge for interpersonal relationship success will continue to apply.
It should be Empathy, Communication and Change Management. If we have the scope clearly defined and the same has been communicated to all the stakeholders which will help to attain less change management. Saving Changes...

Fabian, all soft skills are important and will remain relevant but with the evolution of AI, Emotional Intelligence and Decision Making skills will take precedence in my opinion.

While all soft skills remain important, I respectfully disagree that Emotional Intelligence and Decision Making will take precedence over Critical Thinking in the age of AI. Critical thinking is essential for effectively leveraging AI tools, evaluating their outputs, and understanding their limitations. It enables Project Managers to critically assess AI-generated recommendations, identify potential biases, and make informed decisions on when and how to apply AI solutions in project management contexts. By combining critical thinking with AI capabilities, Project Managers can enhance their problem-solving abilities, leading to more robust and innovative project outcomes.
