Hello All, I wanted to know what does a project manager do during a POC to identify a future software. There is an existing software that has become expensive and the leadership would want a better dashboarding tool. There are developers who are working on checking the performance and features.

Same as they would for any other project. Align stakeholders towards the project's purpose and work with the team to plan and execute the gathering of requirements for the software solution, evaluation of possible solutions, the selection process and (optional) the creation of a high confidence procurement management plan and implementation plan.

To add to Kiron's feedback, PM do also work on building a business case for the new features and for replacing the existing software if need be.

If the dashboard is related to project performance, then the PM can also act as a voice for part of the user community.

The Project Manager should be involved in the Business Case and Project Charter creation; schedule planning; coordination with the internal and external stakeholders; quality, scope, and budget control; risk management, communication, and integration activities.

At the close stage, he should ensure the project closure report and lessons learned are adequately documented and stored in a safe document repository.
