PMI is changing how they offer micro-credential courses starting September 4th. After that, you can buy them as eLearnings. If you purchase a course, finish it by December 31st to keep its micro-credential status. After that date, they won't be called 'micro-credential' anymore, but you'll still get a Badge and Certificate of Completion. Any micro-credentials you already earned will stay valid.

Thanks for this update, Danny! Is this a material change or is it just a case of "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"?

Danny, thanks for highlighting this to the community. I received an email from PMI yesterday mentioning this upcoming change but took me a minute to digest it. I don't think anything material will change except that there will probably be no exam at the end of the course which makes it easier for some (previously you had to do an exam at the end of the course to earn the micro-credential). The content will be the same and upon completion of the course, you will earn a badge and certificate of completion.

That said, I am glad that those who already took the courses and exams, will retain the micro-credenial status.

Kiron Bondale , I'm not entirely sure about making fundamental changes, but I believe PMI should not treat a candidate's credential position as an experiment. Even if it appears similar, frequent changes in credential positions do not benefit the candidates.
Rami Kaibni , Thanks for clarification.

I believe that a clearer communication, explaining the motivation and a probably an example or two, could benefit all those involved.

Hello, I called PMI yesterday about this topic, and was not informed of the change. I was just told OCM is material is offered via eLearning, when I knew previously it was a 'micro-credential'. Please consider making this content a certification because as a PM, I frequently utilize OCM practices and would love to learn more. I would prefer gaining knowledge through PMI, and will do so through e learning. However, what certification body would you recommend to pursue if I decided to move forward on obtaining an OCM cert.

Randa Harb , Prosci is well-known for its Change Management Certification, though the certification fees can be quite steep. Alternatively, there is also certification option from Association of Change Management Professionals. I hope that someday PMI will introduce its own version of a Change Management certification. Personally, I would prefer to pursue certification through PMI, not only because it's a respected professional organization, but also because PMI is committed to continuous improvement and staying responsive to the evolving needs of stakeholders. My hope is that any changes in the certification landscape, whether in terms of fees, requirements, or other aspects, will be made with careful consideration so as not to unduly impact candidates or certification holders.

Thank you for the explanation, but as usual PMI makes it overly complicated to keep up to date with learning and maintaining certifications and lacks clear communication. Ironic considering we are all here to improve organizations and learn tactics for those specific issues.

This per me is not a good move. Micro-credentials are more valuable than eLearnings, as micro-credentials get you a certificate along with a badge.

I’m very sad that this was implemented 🫠 I just completed my “micro-credential “ and only got a certificate of completion 🥹

I recently completed the Construction Project Communications course (previously a microcredential) and received a certificate of completion. However, the PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) page does not indicate that I have finished the course. Do I need to take any additional steps?
