I was recently observing my brother-in-law as the coach for my nephew's baseball team. I was shocked at all the detailed plans he had to juggle between organizing uniforms, team photos, scheduling the games, scheduling playoffs and managing a budget. My brother-in-law is not a PM by trade but is doing a great job balancing scope, schedule and budget. It made me wonder if anyone here uses your PM skills and methodologies in your personal life. If so, what approach do you find yourself using and do you have any templates or "hacks" to share? Saving Changes...

Kara, I use PM skills everyday and in every activity. For example, when travelling, I have a checklist that I go through but that's just one small example!

Does this mean you take the lead for planning trips? Is that a good thing or bad thing?
Personally, I like to take the lead and ensure we get to experience all the sites on schedule :-)

Kara, the only reason I take lead on planning trips is because I am single so you can say that I have no choice unless I am travelling with a group of friends, but in the future, I would be happy to delegate this task, in the future :-)

Fair enough. We use a checklist for packing that the kids have embraced & we never forget anything. BUT we do forget the occasional charger when packing to go home!

I use a very detailed packing checklist and another one for pre-checks before departure. OCD type of checklists :D

My checklists have checklists. You can enjoy the trip if those lists are done though.
I prioritize a lot of home chores and project tasks by whether there is a lot of idle time between steps like cooling, curing, or drying. The sooner the paint goes on the wall, the sooner the waiting period will be over before painting the trim. Better yet if that drying time is overnight or while I'm at work.
Another is flagging tasks in our dreary rainy season as wet or dry day jobs. The weather report finally calls for sun? Search OneNote for everything that includes #dry, start adding them to my weekend plans, and make sure I have tools and supplies ready.

This is a good example of being able to spend one weekend or two based on how you prioritize. One weekend of managed chaos is preferred when painting.
Tagging in OneNote? I will try that. I do this at work for cross dependencies but never thought of this for home. Thank you!

My mistake...I use ToDo for that. It's very convenient for switching between my computer and phone.

Oh even better! I just learned how to use ToDo using AI meeting minutes to place all my ToDo with reminders from all my meetings. Having this for home as well would be amazing to have it all in one place.
