I did extensive research on this subject in seismic exploration projects (on land) and found out that major contributors in 73% of seismic projects failure are:
1. Accidental project managers (no formal training in project management discipline)
2. Deterministic duration estimates
3. Using Operation Management instead of specific project management processes
4. No detailed planning
5. Absence of EV
