Logged in on Friday and GIGs seem to have vanished? Is it just me, is it a fault, or have the site managers taken these down either temporarily or permanently? Saving Changes...

After an exhaustive search I've discovered a buried notification that GIGs are no longer available. Seems rather an inconsiderate way to do this - no notice so we could make sure we'd secured any useful content, no consultation. I know GIGs weren't exactly highly active but a few of them still had life in them, and certainly much of the historical content had value, so at the least it would have been more professional to leave an archive of these available.
Isn't this site meant to be promoting good practice in project management, and shouldn't such practices start with applying them to the site management itself? How do you think your stakeholders would react to a project that took away a whole area of capability and actually destroyed information and resources with no discussion, no change management, no effective communication at all? Hi Bernard
Yes, we've taken the decision to discontinue GIGs. I'm sorry if you were upset by the process and we would be happy to deliver any content you contributed to the GIGs to you directly. In fact we'd be happy to do that for anyone who has a similar concern.
From time to time, we remove components that are not currently providing a lot of value. When we do, we tend not to make big announcements about it. Perhaps we should rethink that.
In any case, I apologize for any issues this has caused. I really appreciate your frequent contributions Bernard and would never want you to feel like we don't. Thank you for bringing this up and please drop me a message if there's anything else I can do. Saving Changes...

Thanks Dave, but its not that easy.
Although I have been a member for more years than I can remember, I really only started using the site actively in the last year, and over that time I'd joined quite a few GIGs, most of which I hadn't yet had time to fully explore - plenty I'd seen had content in that looked useful and interesting but not urgent, so had put on the second page of the todo list, and now will never be able to get to. If there'd been some communication around this I could happily have dedicated enough time to review all these and extract what was useful to me, but now I'll always know that there is useful content that others have taken time to post, that I'll never be able to read.
Just seems a sad waste. And of course it gives me concerns in other areas - I was developing some content for a blog here, but now I have to think carefully - do I really want to post this somewhere where one day it may just be removed without even warning? I wonder how many others might be having similar concerns, and what that might do for the level of contribution to the site. Saving Changes...
