Talk to your local PMI Chapter and see what they recommend. Joining could be a good option too.

I would suggest talking to the PM on your current project. Ask how you can help out. Start building up some project management experience and see if you like the job. One area for some personal introspection, how willing are you to give up focused time alone dedicated to problems? In a PM role, one will spend much time reacting to other people's issues on an interrupt basis. Good luck on your next steps.

There is a list of PMI Chapters on the PMI website here: http://www.pmi.org/Get-Involved/Chapters-PMI-Chapters.aspx

If you join PMI you can also opt to become a member of a Chapter, normally people choose the one closest to them.

The Chapters organise events. Sometimes these are open to people who are not PMI or Chapter members so even if you don't want to join you could still go along to meet other people and learn more. Someone at the Chapter may be able to suggest local courses that would meet your needs.

Thank you Elizabeth for your time !!That was helpful.
Do you think joining in any certification programs offered from some univ (example some univ are offering courses/certifications with Project Management as Major) will be of any help?
(I already did my Masters in Computer Science I don't want to go for double masters)

I would suggest looking at job adverts in your local area and the field you want to work in. Even if you don't meet the criteria yet, what do they say you need to get the job? If local employers value university certificates, then go for it!

I agree with all the responses. Participating in discussion boards like this is a first step in discovering more of the project management career. Attend chapter meetings and PMi webinars on project management so that you can be immersed more in the project management world.

Ask your PM if you can shadow him or her and see first hand what really is PM all about on a one full day or one full week basis and see whether you really like to be a PM.

Good luck.
