Hello everyone,

I have 4 years of experience managing projects using agile methodologies, some of them using SCRUM. Recently, I began educating myself and I came across SAFe. What does it mean to work in a SAFe environment?

SAFe is just another scaled agile framework. It happens to have significant marketing clout behind it which has helped it achieve significant market share, but it is an overly complicated approach to enterprise agility, predicated on a flawed framework (namely Scrum).

If you are interested in enterprise agility, I'd recommend investigating Disciplined Agile.

Bisharah, I totally agree with Kiron and this is the reason I didn’t pursue any of the SAFe credentials despite having more than 50 global credentials. I also recommend looking into DA!

Wow! Thanks a lot, both of you. This was an eye opener for me. I am currently in Germany applying for jobs and sometimes I come across this in the job descriptions. So just thought I will clarify first. And sure, I will take a look into DA.

Take care!

Bisharah,
If you want to work in a SAFe environment, you have to find a company that is committed to it. There are quite a few in Germany, and SAFe comes up in job ads. If you want to apply, SAFe training is the way to go.
If a company did not select SAFe, this knowledge would not help you.

Hi! Working in a Scrum SAFe environment means using the principles of Scrum for team-level agility while applying SAFe to coordinate and manage larger programs across multiple teams.

The main Characteristics of a Scrum SAFe Environment:
Cross-team Collaboration: Multiple Scrum teams work together on a shared vision or product, while maintaining individual sprints.
Alignment to Strategic Goals: While Scrum focuses on team-level execution, SAFe ensures that all teams are aligned with broader organizational goals.
Continuous Delivery and Feedback: SAFe promotes continuous delivery, allowing frequent feedback loops and adjustments to ensure ongoing alignment with customer needs.

The greatest companies in the whole world are adopting SAFe. No matter the domain where they are working on. I am saying that not because I am a SAFe advocated, just because I worked on that including I am working today in the largest technology consulting firm in the world. It is not a matter of marketing only. It is a matter that SAFe took the key definitions created when agile was defined in 1991 which was in top-down way instead of bottom-up way that was the approach took for software people.
