New to PM field, studying for CAPM cert, seeking roles to gain experience.

Hello PMI community.

I am new to the field of Project Management, currently studying for my certificate of Certified Associate in Project Management. The course is going well and I am learning a significant amount about the PM space (pages upon pages of notes). My background is in data management and analysis, reporting data trends, and fixing issues with data stored in a CRM. I'm confident my skills will transition nicely once I become part of a project management team.

Where I need assistance is, searching for the right roles that will allow me to gain PM experience when I have none.

Once I complete the course, pass the test and receive the cert, what position titles should I search for? Are there any roles I can search for now while studying that can help build my PM portfolio?

All assistance and guidance is welcome. Thanks for reading my post and providing feedback.

Regards,
Andre

Congratulations on your journey into project management! As you prepare to transition into this field, consider searching for entry-level positions such as Project Coordinator, Project Assistant, Project Analyst, Junior Project Manager, or PMO Assistant. These roles often provide the hands-on experience needed to build your portfolio. Additionally, you might explore internships or temporary roles like Project Intern or Administrative Support in a PMO. While you're studying, look for volunteer opportunities in local nonprofits or community organizations that require project management support. You can also seek part-time roles that involve project-related tasks, even if they're not strictly labeled as project management positions. Leveraging your background in data management will further enhance your appeal in these roles. Good luck!

Danny,

Thank you for providing roles for me to search. I have seen a few of them in previous searches so I have on the right track. I'll begin to search for more of these roles in addition to volunteer opportunities to help gain experience.

I appreciate your response.

Thanks for the advice Antonio. Based on your input along with inout from others in the PMI community, I'm going to adjust my job notifications to all entry level PM roles to include Project Coordinator.
