Interesting question. Reflecting back to move forward is important. Everyone's journey into project management is different; did I pick PM as a career? No, I will say that today I share my journey with new PMs, engage with my community and am an advocate of advancing the profession one project manager at a time.

I wish I had known lots of things: that many people need chasing up more than I think they do, that communication and teamwork is important and will catch you out massively when it goes wrong (so don't let that happen) and most importantly, when you've got a common vision and clear goals, actually it is pretty easy to bring everyone along with you. I think that's what surprised me the most, as well, in my first experience managing a project. I think I just assumed everyone would "do their job" and meet the deadline - or if there was an issue they would bring it to my attention. I learned the hard way that no one was reading my emails and that they had other priorities! Saving Changes...
