Hello people,

As we are heading towards a future that's heavily investing in AI in multiple aspects of businesses and projects, I wanted to ask whether you have tried data analysis with Gen AI tools?

If yes, what were the kind of results you obtained and what are the tips you would provide if someone presented you with the same question.

Hi there,
in our company we did not implement and particular "AI tool". The framework conditions and for instance data security are not yet set so that for the moment we only utilize Microsoft Copilot Professional.
When it comes to data analysis in project management the main use I have experienced to far is to
- transfer inputs from requirement profiles into project charters
- analyze project input documents regarding specific project risks

Thanks for sharing your inputs Svenja! I totally agree on the data security part. I tried from my end using a sample data set to see what Gen AI is capable of in terms of analysis and giving insights on proceeding in a particular direction. However, the accuracy totally depends on how we engineer our prompts and having a clear idea on the results or the directions we want or wish to pursue. Speciically, I used ChatGPT 4-o.

yeah... I would never use open source AI for professional projects - you never know which sources and inputs are considered...
Most important point is company-wide alignment with IT and Information Security.

As you know AI is a board term. In this case I understand you are talking about generative AI. Generative Ai tools are not intended for data analysis. Or perhaps I have write data analytics. Remember that generative Ai is just "predictive text with steroids" talking in a very simplistic way. Generative AI produces new content. But, I made some experiences on the matter. Mainly using it for data query and interpretation, assisting me on data visualization, some kind of pattern recognition. The problem I found is you are adding some kind of risk which is inherent to generative AI.

I agree with you Sergio! My experience was that unless and until we prompt the commands efficiently, it's not going to be of any use. We need to have a clear idea of what are the outcomes we are focusing on. And yes, as long as the prompts are not upto the mark, there is always a risk of deviating from the result.
