As I know that this community consist of diverse professionals from entry level to experienced professionals, I just wanted to get your opinions on what advice or guidance would you give to a fresher in project management if he/she approaches you?

Fantastic initiative! Seeking wisdom from experienced professionals can make a huge difference in a fresher's project management journey. I'm eager to hear the advice and insights from this community, which will surely help shape the next generation of project managers! For instance, I recall a project manager who started their career by volunteering to lead a small project at work, which helped them build confidence and develop essential skills

Question - What's one piece of advice you wish you had received when you started your project management career?

Thanks Pavan! Of course, volunteering does help. In fact, I gained my first project management experience from volunteering too and that opened up a lot of opportunities and knowledge for me.

One piece of advice that I wish I had was to plan something when something doesn't go according to plan rather than planning to get things executed. That is something I figured out later in my career the hard way.

One thing I always recommend to those new to the profession is to find at least one seasoned mentor who can help you achieve near and mid-term objectives. Ideally this mentor would not work in your company but would be from your industry and is located within your region so that they are well aware of "how things work" in your context.

This is something I completely agree with. A mentor will definitely help an individual have a clear direction to follow rather than following a trial and error method of making things work.

Bisharah, I completely agree with Kiron's feedback. In addition, I encourage you to get involved in volunteer activities, whether through your local PMI chapter or other opportunities. Engaging in volunteering can foster your personal growth and provide valuable experiences beyond your workplace!

Indeed Rami! Which was one of the reasons why I signed up for the volunteering opportunities at PMI.
