Does anyone know what is the right way to do this in microsoft project professional; if my engineer can complete 1.5 vans per day, taking account of holidays, how can I calculate when they will have finished 150 vans? There must be an elegant way to do this that will be responsive to my increasing engineer resource etc.?

As far as I know, MSP does not support the ability to put in a productivity or throughput value for a work-type resource such that duration & work can be calculated. For any task you have to provide either the duration or the work (effort).

In this case, the work is 100 days and the duration would be calculated by MSP based on the engineer's resource calendar. If you modify the engineer's availability or increase the number of engineers assigned, the duration would change if the task is an effort driven task.

Hi Oli,
you might find support at Microsoft directly - there is the option du schedule task "effort-driven". So you might be able to integrate the productivity:
