You can do what-if analysis in MSP in one of two ways. Visually, whenever there is a change to a task which results in a ripple effect, you can see highlights for all affected tasks. The other way is to use the compare projects function (under Reports) by saving a copy of the schedule with the changes made and then comparing the updated and original schedules.
