In the face of the climate crisis, the role of project managers becomes essential in steering our initiatives toward a sustainable future. By integrating environmental challenges into every phase of project management, these leaders have the power to influence not only project outcomes but also organizational culture. Their expertise in adopting new ACF (Low Carbon Approach) standards is crucial for minimizing carbon footprints and maximizing positive impacts on communities and the environment.
To ensure the success of this transition to sustainable project management, fostering open and collaborative dialogue is imperative. What strategies can you propose to involve teams in this effort? How can project managers inspire stakeholders to adopt environmentally friendly practices? By sharing your ideas and experiences, we can collectively build a proactive community ready to face climate challenges.

Questions :
What challenges have you faced when integrating climate considerations into your projects?
Answer: Yes, As a project manager, I am currently working on The world's most prominent climate refugee Residents of Khurushkul shelter project :
1. The scope of work would be changed, resulting in project delay.
2. Generally, Anticipating resources can be a problem when projects are significant.
3. Be prepared for secondary risks
4. The challenges based on The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Questions :
How do you think ACF standards can be concretely applied across different sectors?
Answer: Sustainability Training Programs: Develop workshops and training sessions that focus on sustainability principles, ACF standards, and best practices in project management related to environmental impact based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN.
Certification Programs: Offer certifications such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or PMP (Project Management Professional), emphasizing green practices.
Mentorship and Peer Learning: Create mentorship programs where experienced project managers in sustainability can guide newcomers to the field, facilitating knowledge sharing and best practices.
Collaborative Platforms: Establish platforms that allow project managers to share their experiences, challenges, and solutions related to sustainability, fostering a community of practice.
Stakeholder Engagement Workshops: Conduct workshops that promote fair communication among stakeholders.
Answer: Application of ACF Standards in Various Sectors: In the construction and infrastructure sector, ACF standards should be implemented by utilizing sustainable materials, optimizing energy efficiency in designs, and ensuring that projects minimize disruptions to local ecosystems.
Emphasize waste reduction, enhance energy efficiency in facilities, and support sustainable procurement practices, including sourcing eco-friendly materials and constructing engineered sanitary landfills using recyclable materials.
Questions :
What initiatives or training would be beneficial to enhance project managers' skills in sustainability?
Education: Integrate sustainability into training, curricula, and project site operations while encouraging new project managers, engineers, and project team-led initiatives that promote environmental stewardship.
By addressing these challenges and implementing strategies for training and engagement, project managers can play a pivotal role in driving sustainability within their organizations.
In my practical experience as a project manager, I believe it is crucial to conduct a feasibility study before taking on a project. This involves addressing both internal and external risks, including high-level risks.

Hi Lamine,
Below are my thoughts / answers to your questions:
1- What challenges have you faced when integrating climate considerations into your projects? Lack of stakeholder's' understanding, general confusion between climate mitigation and adaptation, climate change consideration is not always part of the scope of work, no/low budget allocations for climate consideration and in some cases absence of regulatory framework (e.g. climate proofing integration in infrastructure projects, etc.).
2- How do you think ACF standards can be concretely applied across different sectors? The starting point will be GHG accounting/inventory via a robust and systematic methods/standard for all scopes (i.e. Scope 1, 2 and sometimes 3) followed by a comparative assessment between "Business As Usual" versus BAT/BAT++ approach taking into considerations the cost-benefit analysis. However, the breakthrough will always revolve around the climate incentives and credits whether via the compliance and/or voluntarily climate markets.
3- What initiatives or training would be beneficial to enhance project managers' skills in sustainability? Climate change concepts, projections (with various scenarios) as well as overall understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation would be a good foundation followed by more technical training on climate finance/mechanism would be good (all this should be supported with case studies). For those who are interested to develop more, a more industry/sector focused climate training would be very helpful (e.g. Zero/Net Zero Carbon Technology, IPPC/clean technology, circular economy, etc).
