Increasingly, project managers are using GenAI to enhance various aspects of their workflows, operate more efficiently, and reduce manual tasks. Examples include task automation, predictive analytics, resource optimization, and data-driven decision making.

As part of PMI’s Learning team, I am interested in supporting project professionals in getting the most out of GenAI. Share out in the comments below, and learn how fellow project professionals are leveraging GenAI!

-How are you using AI in your PM workflows?
-What kinds of workflows are you designing that save you significant amounts of time and effort and boost the quality of your work?
-What tools do you string together to connect the dots to move from single, one-time interactions with tools like ChatGPT to full-blown, replicable workflows that allow you to spend your precious time elsewhere?
-If you’re not yet leveraging AI in your work, what’s stopping you from doing so

In my experience, Generative AI tools are currently enhancing my individual productivity rather than operating at an enterprise-wide level for project management. They are not yet replacing predictive analytics, automated scope generation, or SOA tools. Instead, the tools assist me in generating reports, brainstorming analytics ideas, and streamlining documentation.

As a practitioner who also wears an academic hat, I observe that AI adoption in project management is still developing. While professionals leverage AI for task automation and workflow optimization, integration at scale faces challenges such as accuracy, security, and compatibility with existing methodologies. Some have begun connecting AI tools to project management platforms for efficiency, but AI’s full potential in project management has yet to be realized.

The company said the resource will be primarily deployed for energy transition projects. At the same time, it sees the tool as a way to enhance its oil and gas production by aiding reserves discovery and driving efficiency.

The over 100 million-euro HPC6 supercomputing system was launched just before Christmas at Eni’s Green Data Centre located in Ferrera Erbognone in northern Italy.

The supercomputer has a computational power of up to 606 petaflop per second, or over 600 quadrillion mathematical operations per second.

The system, which was ranked fifth in a list of the world’s top 500 supercomputers, is the first to be deployed in Europe, the world’s first industrial-use supercomputer and the only non-U.S. system among the top 5 in the world, the company said.

AI has been pretty useful in my project management work, but not in the usual way of building workflows or automating tasks. I use tools like ChatGPT and PMI Infinity more to help me think through project details—sharpening my inputs, spotting key checkpoints, and making sure dependencies are clear.

For me, it’s less about setting up AI-driven workflows and more about using AI to test ideas, catch blind spots, and bring new perspectives to projects. It’s like having a second pair of eyes to make sure nothing gets missed.

Curious how others are using AI—are you automating things, using it for brainstorming, or something?

Generative AI is used in project management to enhance productivity and streamline workflows. It automates tasks like scheduling, resource allocation, and reporting. AI tools generate project timelines, assign tasks based on team availability, and draft reports or meeting summaries. They also facilitate communication through chatbots and summarise email threads. In risk management, AI predicts potential issues and suggests mitigation strategies using historical data. It supports decision-making by providing data-driven insights. Additionally, AI optimises resource allocation, budgets, and performance tracking through real-time dashboards. This integration allows project managers to focus on strategic tasks, improving overall efficiency and project outcomes.

Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the way we manage projects. By automating repetitive tasks such as reporting and resource allocation, AI frees project managers to focus on more strategic tasks. In addition, AI can analyze large amounts of data to identify patterns, predict risks, and optimize decision making. For example, it can analyze historical project data to identify causes of delays and suggest preventive actions.

In terms of tools and workflows, AI integrates with popular project management platforms such as Asana and Trello. These tools, combined with language models such as GPT-3, make it possible to create virtual assistants that answer questions, generate reports and automate processes. By connecting different applications and services through automation tools such as Zapier, customized and efficient workflows can be built. However, the adoption of AI in project management can face challenges such as lack of knowledge, costs and resistance to change.

In essence, AI offers great potential to improve efficiency and effectiveness in project management. By automating tasks, analyzing data and improving communication, AI can help project managers achieve their goals faster and more effectively.
Hello Fabian, indeed, I’ll agree with you. However I’ve a problem with the users. They have difficulty to make to describe the task in the window. We developed a very friendly window, choosing trough automact option the equipament. But choose the material is hard to them because they have constraings in planning the task. The workflow is a line, approval task, plan the task and schedule, see the material and tools, after report the task in a tablet with x answers, after the statistic of the equipment and that task, if concluded, and the remain budget for preventive or repair. I have enjoyed learning about Generative AI and how it empowers me to be more people and customer-facing while still efficiently managing all project documentation, keeping projects on track, and providing effective updates to stakeholders.

I use ChatGPT frequently, mainly for brainstorming, drafting email content, conducting market studies, and developing tables for my research. It significantly enhances my ability to compare different ideas and process large volumes of content, saving me valuable time that I can allocate to other areas.

I appreciate its speed in providing information, even if not always perfectly accurate—having an immediate answer is often more beneficial than a delayed, incomplete one.

I’d love to connect with anyone interested in collaborating on new ideas and working together. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

We’ve been integrating GenAI into project management workflows to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and enhance decision-making. AI-powered automation helps us generate reports, summarize meetings, and prioritize tasks efficiently. Predictive analytics allows us to forecast risks and resource needs, ensuring smoother project execution.

One workflow that’s been a game-changer is automating project status updates. By integrating ChatGPT with project management tools like Jira and Monday.com, we extract key insights from team updates and generate concise reports for stakeholders. This eliminates redundant manual reporting and enhances transparency.

To scale AI beyond one-off interactions, we use APIs to connect AI tools with automation platforms like Zapier, creating dynamic workflows that run in the background. This shift lets us focus on high-value tasks while AI handles the repetitive work.
