I am looking to recruit a one-year post-doc on the subject of “Planning and managing the risks associated with dividing megaprojects into several contracts.” Is anyone interested, or who might know someone interested? I have a detailed version of the subject and conditions (at CentraleSupélec in France).

Although I don't know anyone I could refer for this, it sounds like a fascinating research topic. Reducing complexity through decomposition sounds like a good idea, but if that increases the degree of integration risk, then it is a similar challenge to choosing to subdivide a large team into multiple integrated sub-teams.

I'm guessing there might be some connection with Dr. Bent Flyvbjerg's work on megaprojects?

Thanks Kiron

Yes, for the moment, I've only included references to previous work by our team, but Flyvberg is in our bibliography on the subject. In addition, we naturally have a part entrusted to internal teams in the breakdown of work packages. We'll start by examining the constitution of work package perimeters, then enrich the model by considering whether the mission is internal or external (and it is a contract).

Planning and managing risks in dividing megaprojects into multiple contracts requires clear coordination, defined interfaces, and accountability. Establish a strong governance structure, standardized contract terms, and effective communication channels. Identify interdependencies early, manage scope overlaps, and ensure transparent risk allocation. Continuous monitoring and collaboration among contractors minimize delays, conflicts, and cost overruns.
