Rather than taking a generic template, a better approach is to poll the audience for this report to find out what specific information they are interested in and how they would like it presented. Then, mock up a report using current data, review it with them, get their feedback and iterate on this a couple of cycles till they are happy.

I believe there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer here. The key is to create a report that addresses your stakeholders’ questions and highlights any deviations from our agreed-upon plans early on. By analyzing your stakeholders’ profiles and following your communication plan, you’ll understand what information they need and when they need it to ensure the project stays on track.

From my perspective, the essential elements to include are:

- Progress update
- Percentage complete
- Risks and issues
- Planned work until the next report
- Decisions and change requests, if any
- Visual tracker (budget, resources, and scope)

Remember, the template is a tool to facilitate effective communication and project management, not an end in itself.
