EQ has ALWAYS been an essential skill for PMs. If you lack it, you simply won't be able to effective engage stakeholders and develop a team. Period.

Emotional intelligence (EQ) has been pivotal in my success in project management, primarily because it starts with self-awareness and self-regulation, allowing me to leverage my intellectual capabilities, experiences, and knowledge effectively. By maintaining my own balance, I can create an environment that fosters potential delivery and performance capacity across my teams and stakeholders. In stakeholder management, I apply EQ by actively listening and empathizing with their perspectives, ensuring that communication is open and constructive. This approach helps in building trust and aligning objectives. For conflict resolution, EQ enables me to remain calm and impartial, facilitating discussions that lead to mutually beneficial solutions. As a mentor to multiple diverse teams, each with members of different profiles, I focus on balancing rather than directing them, nurturing an atmosphere where team members feel valued. By recognizing and appreciating individual strengths and areas for growth, I encourage collaboration and innovation. My experiences have shown that EQ not only drives successful project outcomes but also enhances leadership effectiveness by promoting a culture of understanding, adaptability, and resilience.

Hi Pavan
As a Project Manager, Mastering emotional intelligence (EQ) should become a part of our DNA.

There are some rules of the game of emotions with emotions:
Think about your strengths, weaknesses, and how your emotions affect others. Emotions need to be controlled. Understand other people’s emotions and think from their point of view. Build strong relationships with people with Good communication, Collaboration, and Good Leadership

Best,
Golam

I would like to share my experience in stakeholder management. In a project with a lot of change requests, the client's senior management was unhappy with the delay of the project. In addition to the schedule & cost of each requested change, I created a time table including all impact areas, as it takes time to do a technical impact analysis. The goal was to provide transparent visibility with a focused empathetic approach. When I presented this table during a meeting, the client managers realized how we as a subcontractor were affected by the misguidance of their team and that they were actually the cause of the serious loss of time in the project.
