How to achieve good practice in waterfall model, especially in time management

I have initially planned the entire project timeline and segmented some task points, but unfortunately, there is a lack of a tracking tool. Do you have any good suggestions?

Hi Xia,
which tool did you use for project scheduling? Normally MS Project and comparable tools have baseline functions that allow to fix an initial timeline and track changes.
They also allow to enter progress and modify - always being able to show the initial schedule (and also various versions as additional baselines).

Simple: take a look to Barry Bohem´s work, mainly "Cone of Uncertainty". It is all you need.

Good question, Xia. In waterfall projects, clear tracking is key. Simple tools like Gantt charts, Excel sheets, or basic project management software can help. Regular check-ins to compare planned vs. actual progress also keep the timeline under control without needing complex tools.

Great job setting up your initial timeline — that’s a crucial foundation!
Since you don’t have a tracking tool yet, I suggest starting with Excel or Google Sheets to track planned vs. actual dates and progress.
For a more structured approach, Microsoft Project or Smartsheet can help you establish baselines and monitor variances effectively.
The key is to update regularly and review progress consistently — even simple tools work well when used with discipline.
