The question "How has the adoption of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and automation, affected the efficiency of your PMO?" seeks to understand the impact of modern technological advances on the operations and effectiveness of a Project Management Office (PMO).

Dear Fabian,
that is a very good question!
I have to admit, that in a huge global company like the one I work for, there is not too much of AI available to me as PMO. The Microsoft Copilot is useful to analyze data and support project managers and project work - but AI has not yet been integrated into the entire company system landscape.

The potential is great. For example, a well trained AI could take over a portion of the oversight work which a PMO can provide by analyzing data from the majority of projects, freeing up analysts to focus their efforts on the vital few which are deemed to be most strategic or risky. Similarly, AI could be used to automate a significant portion of portfolio reporting.

However, as Svenja has indicated, given the continued immaturity of technologies and the infant state of policies & standards in most organizations for use of AI, the benefits are unlikely to be realized in the near term.

If and only if people understand that roles and process, as originally defined, "are dead".
