Hello All,
Are there any methodologies, tools or ways to better manage a project by using Business Intelligence tools so it will help the employees who manages it, to better predict, or at least make sure, the project will successes?
We are currently focusing on projects that deals in development of some kind (hardware, software, system and so on), and not projects like implementing a new software like PLM in the company.
We are also using OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition) as our BI tool and Microsoft Project as our Project management software.
And a few clarifying questions:
Can information about manpower, deadlines, budget and so on indicate if your current project will be successful or not?
Do you need to use data from past projects as well?
Can a BI tool be enough, or do we need some sort of Analytics or big data system for that?
If you have any kind of information, books, article, case studies and so on, it will help a lot.
Thank you in advance,
Doron.

In my small experience, project success has always be related to the business: develop new products, reduce costs, do faster. Project success has always been intergrated to a change in business.
I have never seen business results in BI tools so far.
On the contrary, BI tools are focusing on details. project success needs higher perspectives.
When projects are very small pieces of large programs or portfolios, comparing actual costs to the forecast used to be OK at a portfolio level. What counted was not if my project costs were 25% higher or lower, what counted was how my portfolio was going.
Due to the increasing complexity of business environments, changes are part of the game. I use less and less EVM techniques. On the contrary, we adpapt to changes and opportunities. Portfolios are permanently updated to new versions. Saving Changes...
