Hello,
A pretty common question I get asked in agile trainings I participate in, is if Scrum is only used and/or if it's only good for IT industry projects.
I have my personal opinion.
Which in short is that you can use Scrum in any and mostly all industries if your project can deliver value incrementally, and, if your team, your company, your client, are Scrum-ready culturally speaking. Meaning, everyone's aware of how Scrum works, what it can offer, what it can not, and also, that the Sponsor and/or company's upper management supports Scrum implementation within the company and/or the project.
So, I ask you al if you could share examples of projects using and implementing Scrum, but, in a non-IT environment.
It's OK if you name or not name the company.
It's OK if the project was or was not successful.
I'm looking for examples of non-IT and non-software related projects that might be approached using Scrum.
Thanks! Saving Changes...

Jeff Sutherland provides a number of examples in his book "Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time". He mentions that while Scrum was developed within an IT Development context, it is a set of practices which can be applied to any domain.
Examples include how Scrum was heavily influenced by the Toyota Production Process (manufacturing). Was used to significantly improve educational outcomes in a Dutch school. Create effective journalism outcomes during a Middle East crisis. Assist with setting up Micro Credit in Uganda, and other examples. Saving Changes...

Fredrico, there are several examples of scrum in non-IT environments. Here is one from my own experience with a large social services agency:
You should also check out www.wikispeed.com or search you tube for Joe Justice - his project applies scrum to design and manufacturing. Saving Changes...

Hi Matt,
I did see lots of articles and interviews regarding Jeff's book and I'm sure there'd be great examples in there for me to use. I'll get back to researching on it and probably try to get the book.
Hi John,
I read a lot and saw lots of videos about the Wikispeed team project, amazing. I always show their videos in my classes since it's a very clear example of Scrum/agile practices use for non-IT environment.
Great link about agile in non-profit!
