While we might not formally manage the team members working with us, we should still follow good practices in unleashing intrinsic motivation - this includes Daniel Pink's three pillars of Drive (mastery, autonomy & purpose) as well as regular, authentic recognition. And none of that matters if we haven't worked hard to create a psychologically safe working environment for them.
