Recent legal discussions about employee performance reviews, risk of bias in hiring decisions, and surveillance associated with AI transmission of information, point to the need for updated best practices in the workplace. Another example is the breach of IP legal rules protecting cost estimating formulae as trade secrets owned by major corporations. What are the implications for project managers in the realm project management best practices and especially in the area of risk management? Saving Changes...

Regarding project management best practices, my guiding principle is "I’m personally responsible for every aspect of the information I submit to others, even if AI generated some of it.” With that in mind I can think of very few activities I’d trust AI to perform besides generating creative ideas. If I need to check every aspect of AI’s work (since one incorrect word could have major impact) in most cases I find it easier and faster to do all the work myself to guarantee it’s correct from the start.
At present I think Project Managers take a huge risk when they use AIs to make decisions for them, or intrinsically trust information AI returns. If I can’t personally verify the information AI produces, I wouldn’t dare use it.

AI is just another tool for the project manager. As is often the case, it is people who misuse technology for dishonest or unethical purposes. That is why it is very important to have laws and regulations that serve to limit the actions of PMs. In Europe, they are taking steps in this direction (laws first) before going deeper into the use of AI in a generalized way.

Tamara, first of all, take into account AI is a board term. In the last times this type of things took press because the new model of generative AI (genAI) that was the origin of things like chatGPT. Because of that when an organization will run an initiative using AI but mainly genAI then a new component must be taking into consideration: Responsible AI. Inside that component you will find roles like lawyers, SMEs in inclusion and linguistic, and things like that. I am in charge of this in the number 1 consulting firm in the world. By the way, free courses delivered by PMI explain well about that. Saving Changes...
Yes, I think everyone's comments about the ethical domain underscore the accountability challenge faced by professional users of AI.
Reviewing Microsoft's appsource offerings in the area of artificial intelligence not only clarifies the extent by which ChatGPT and other AI forms are present within the workflow. It is also a reminder of how intellectual property (and along with it other sensitive information) enters the marketplace.
AI supported apps may involve data that is also sensitive information to permeate the exchange in open source access environments via third-party administration. Take SaaS supported PowerBI app integrations for purposes of business intelligence analytics reporting. There are many now. The generative and integrative potential now seems infinite, but we must acknowledge, less discrete as well.
Where IP laws in the different countries converge, has much to do with definition of 'a mano' ownership and liability limits. When one considers the transmission of AI results across a Web-based SaaS, the task of disseminating rights and responsibilities protections is significant. Agreed, for SMEs without in-house lawyer practice reviewing everyday AI use, PMI practice guidance is especially important.
Without proficient legislation in place, project manager responsibilities and rights protections is a debacle. I suppose the courts face challenges of "unwritten" law in this regard, but this is the provenance of judicial or magistrate decision, and PMI best practices are certain to follow. Saving Changes...
