What can a Chapter do to support it's members that are looking for a job.

Would you happen to know of any Chapter with a program for this?
What could you imagine a Chapter could do?

I thought of job boards to post job offers by companies and work offers by members. Maybe partnering with a professional hiring company.

Or organizing a speed dating event with searching companies and members

Or running projects for companies/NGOs, using unemployed members as resources.

Or preparing unemployed members with training and mentoring.

Any ideas?

I have seen the following commonly offered by Chapters:

1. Online job postings and mentions in the members' newsletter

2. Organizing job fairs

3. Job hunting-focused networking events

Thanks, Kiron.
Finding a job is a key concern of some of my mentees and some attendees of our Chapter meetings. Some question the value of certifications and others have sent out more than 100 applications. Many fall victim to people offering services for money.
Companies might publish for project managers but are, in fact, looking for subject matter experts with PM as a side skill.

I agree that job placement services could be valuable for chapters, but I haven't seen/heard much activity in that area.

Thanks Rami,
so the Chapter seems to have identified this as a service that some members need.

At PMI Northern Utah Chapter, we offer several resources to support job seekers and career growth, as this is one of the most requested topics during Q4 2024 & early this year.

- Curated job board: A dedicated space to find relevant job opportunities in project management in the area.

- Career-focused training: During our Professional Development Conference, we try to provide sessions on resume reviews, networking strategies, and job search best practices to help professionals advance their careers.

- Monthly networking events: These gatherings create opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and discuss job opportunities in a supportive environment.

- Mentorship program: Our mentorship program helps individuals improve their resumes, prepare for the PMP certification, and gain career guidance from experienced professionals.

- Veteran support: We have a dedicated director focused on assisting military professionals in their transition to civilian careers, helping them translate their experience into project management roles.

We’ve also considered hosting a job fair, which may be in the works for 2026 or 2027 if we have enough volunteers and knowledge to do it.

Thomas Walenta This is an important topic, and it’s great to see a discussion on how Chapters can support job-seeking members. Job boards and partnerships with hiring companies could definitely be helpful. Organizing networking events or mentorship programs may also provide valuable guidance and connections. Training sessions on resume building, interview skills, and industry trends could help members better position themselves. Running volunteer projects for NGOs or small businesses could allow unemployed members to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the community.

It would be interesting to hear from Chapters that have implemented similar programs and learn from their experiences. Finding the right opportunity can be challenging, and any support from the community can make a big difference.

These are fantastic ideas! A chapter can play a vital role in supporting its members during their job search. In addition to job boards and partnerships with hiring companies, organizing networking events or workshops focused on resume building and interview skills could be incredibly beneficial.
