Tacit Knowledges and Unidentified Risks

Engaging the Tacit knowledge in a system by creating effective knowledge management reduces the Risk of unidentified and unknown risks.

When you engage to clear the tacit knowledge, you are limiting them in fact and as a result, unknown unknown risks change to known unkown.unidentified and seperated knowledge are most reason of uncertainty (see characterizing unknow unkowns,Kim.S.D 2012)

While the lack of "spread" of tacit knowledge might introduce risks as assumptions might be made which would not have been had the tacit knowledge been explicit, the tricky aspect is in figuring out "what" tacit knowledge is worth capturing and sharing and what can be best left tacit. The scope of tacit knowledge within even a small organization is too large to capture cost effectively so it (like so much else) comes down to a risk-based decision as to what to surface.
