TQM has brought us to a new frontier, Total Value Management, or are we really at a spot we have previously been but did not recognize our location? TQM made us aware of the importance of monitoring quality through out the entire project life cycle. This started with the development phase and progressed to project completion with “quality check points” along the project’s development. Total Value Management takes a broader view of the providing product and services. The view is looking at separate functions/processes that are mutually supporting that, as a whole will meet the objective. Total Value Management takes an integrated view to improving a situation rather than a stovepipe vision.

I think w/the increase of Xers and Nexers on the scene in the workforce, the timing is just right. The generational differences of the Vets/Boomers vs. Xers and Nexers necessitate this balance or we will lose the momentum in increased effectiveness/productivity we have built in the 80s/90's w/the quality movement. Unless we focus on the balance, X/Nexers will continue to churn from biz to biz to maintain the balance, i.e.having a life outside the job. Saving Changes...
I agree TQM has highlighted the need and importance of TVM but Value Management is altogether a new breed by itself. Refer to Michel Thiry's books on Value Management where he talks about Value Management and Engineering from stand-alone pint of view. Saving Changes...
