I have to admit that I am not versed in agile, however, what I've read of i sounds a lot like rolling wave planning, where the PM perfects the plan as more information becomes available.

Can someone elaborate on the difference?

Any agile experts out there to give an answer here?

Yes, the planning horizon for Agile planning is done on a rolling wave, with respect given to the cone of uncertainty.

However, there is much more to Agile planning than just the rolling wave and much more to Agile in general than just the planning.

First thing, yes your understanding is right with respect to planning in agile we do rolling wave planning , we do prepare plan at last responsible moment because in adaptive life cycle things are expected to change frequently so not to plan in advance.
Agile is beyond just rolling wave planning it has way to handle communication and progress, you may check our free Agile Introductory program, its online program and gives 7 PDUs as well.
