Good Luck. I have completed PMP by following the following 3 suggestions given by seniors : (1) Read the PMBOK first before any other book; Then read any other suggested book (like Rita). Now read PMBOK again by applying what you have understood earlier. (2) Practice some papers before going for the exam checking the time lines (3) Review your practice test results and focus on weak areas.

You really need to know the PMBOK inside out so, as Madhavi suggests, start there. If you use other resources (I found the Head Start PMP really useful) tie it back to the PMBOK as you work through the sections.

How do you learn best? You should let your learning style guide you whether you need a training course, a PMP prep group, or just to work your way through with books.

Good luck!

Thank you so much everyone. I will keep all that good advice in my back-pocket. PMBOK clearly located in my two front pockets. I aim taking the exam towards Q3, so still some time left.

1) READ (each chapter of the PMBOK), and then

2) CREATE a 1-PAGE SUMMARY of the most essential aspects of each chapter; the must know elements, as small as font as you want, with sketches, formulas, bulleted topics, sub topics, why to use , when to use, inputs, outputs, etc. And then

3) STUDY those 1-Pagers daily leading up to the exam.

4) Take a few SAMPLE TEST along the way... you are ready to go...

I have found the exercise of abbreviating a chapter into 1-Page Summary diligently, and then studying those 1-Pagers helps you prepare immensely. Good luck.

1) Study the PMBOK Guide
2) Study it all over again, this time around, index key words, key concepts on each section as well as map how the ITTOs connects to each other and how they flow in and out of the processes and process groups.
3) Practise over 1000 mock questions from various sites e.g Oliverlehmann.com, praizion etc paying particular attention to time. You will get there. All the best.

I suggest Read the PMBOK twice.

one go through chapter wise ie. Knowldge area wise. two-Process group wise. That would give you a solid understanding of PMBOK processes. Be prepared with the Glossary at the back of PMBOK. Also skills such as Negotiation, interpersonal etc are very important. And as they say Practice Maketh the man perfact, practice 1000+ questions.

You dont have to purchase any costly resources including tests which market has to offer. I did not pay other than for PMI membership fee and Exam fees. If your Organisation conducts Project management class, thats good enough to cover 35 PDUs.You can access loads of material from PMI website if you are a member. Very good text books are available. Meredith and Mantle is one of the best. Use it along with PMBOK to get a better understanding, use other text books also if required. PMP exam is not difficult if your concepts are clear. Dont let others make you fearful that its a very difficult exam. When you work hard and prepare, nothing is so difficult that you cannot master.

Final recipe to success is Hard work , Hard work and Hard work.
