Is there a difference between 'using AI to manage a project' versus 'managing an AI Project'?

The reason I ask is due to the new CPMAI certification training for AI Project Management and trying to figure out which one it relates to; managing an AI project or using AI to manage projects. Perhaps its both, im not sure

My takeaway from the PMXPO session is that CPMAI is a methodology for implementing an AI.

AI is a board term. We are using AI in project management from more than 40 years ago, sometimes without being aware on that because it is embedded inside lot of tools. On the other side, from long time ago too, some professionals have the opportunity to manage initiatives where a component was an AI entity. For example, a classic are manufacturing projects. So, nothing new below the sun.

Thanks for this question. Yes, there is definitely a difference between using AI to manage a project and managing an AI project. Using AI to manage a project typically means leveraging AI tools to assist with tasks like scheduling, data analysis, reporting, or other aspects of project management. Managing an AI project, however, involves leading and running projects that involve AI or machine learning technologies themselves, which requires a data centric approach. The CPMAI (Cognitive Project Management in AI) methodology provides a step-by-step approach specifically designed for managing AI and ML projects.
