As we've tracked GenAI's impact on project management over the past year through our research, one thing has become crystal clear: This isn't just another tech trend - it's fundamentally changing how project work gets done. Following our reports on early adoption benefits and high-value use cases, we wanted to understand what separates those achieving modest gains from those reaching advanced levels of productivity with GenAI.

Our latest research reveals fascinating insights about the journey from initial adoption to advanced usage. What we discovered about the role of individual drive versus organizational support, and how different types of users approach learning and experimentation with GenAI, challenges some common assumptions about technology adoption in project management.

Most intriguingly, we found that success with GenAI isn't simply about access to the right tools or organizational resources - though these certainly help. There are deeper factors at play that determine whether a project professional will achieve basic productivity gains or break through to advanced levels of impact.

As we prepare for an upcoming webinar on this research, your experiences and insights on this topic are invaluable to shaping the conversation. We’d love to hear from you!

Rupal,
The adoption of GenAI in project management is not just a matter of tools, but of mindset and strategy. I have observed that practitioners and PMOs who achieve advanced impact with GenAI not only experiment with the technology, but integrate their learning into decision making and process optimization.

Key to success: The combination of individual drive and an organizational culture that encourages experimentation.

Common challenge: Overcoming resistance to change and transforming curiosity into actionable skills.

Advice for startups: Focus on concrete use cases, learn from the community and measure impact early on.

Rupal,
I’m excited to see how GenAI is transforming project management! Personally, I’m in the early stages of my GenAI journey, exploring tools and experimenting with their applications in my projects. One challenge I’ve faced is finding the right resources to help me understand how to effectively integrate GenAI into my workflow. For those who have seen significant gains, I’d love to hear your tips on overcoming the initial learning curve!

I'm in the same boat as Golam in that I'm also in the early stages of my GenAI journey. I'm learning about the pieces of the GenAI puzzle (e.g., LLMs, AI agents, prompts, etc.), but I'm challenged in putting those pieces together. Having said that, it's been a fun ride up to this point.

I can't say I've gotten as far as I'd like by now, but I have built a few custom GPT's and deployed a chatbot on my website.

I plan to go deeper into agentic AI, but feel a lot of it is still in the hype stage with challenges on cost, reliability and ethics still open. The more you get into the details with prompts, chaining and reviewing the outputs the more you appreciate human intelligence. However, some of the AI tools I'm working with are pretty nifty as standalone productivity hacks.

Regarding GenAI for content creation it's amazing how you recognise the patterns of AI generated text, from buzzwords to the copywriting structures, and you have to be careful not to rely too much on it in case you lose credibility.
