In my opinion yes. Humans develop Heuristics through life that permit them to make decisions in a split second or less time even. Heuristics also depend on awareness of surroundings, Conciousness, and Emotional Intelligence. Without Heuristics, it may take a person more time than required to save his/her life in for example an armed assault.

Please share your opinions as advancements require collaboration of all bright minds.

Hi Jean, thanks for your post! This is certainly interesting to consider.

What do you think will be the key challenges here?

Hi Laura, I think to develop Heuristics (rules of thumb) in machines these machines will need consciousness and Emotional Intelligence as well as persistent memory just like humans or even intelligent animals.

Some people may also call these heuristics, sub-conscious decision-making in a split second that can save one's or one's loved one's lives.

The problem is to be able to define consciousness and Emotional Intelligence first and then be able to endow the machine with these faculties so that it can apply heuristics. As well as common sense decision-making like a human, even though not all humans do common sense things!

When I was working on AI Éxpert Systems' as these were called then, my CS Professor always said that if we cannot give EQ and feelings to a machine it is near impossible to make Expert Systems that can replace human experts
