The company i'm currently with hasn't really used EVM much in their projects, and I feel like it's just too good of a tool to pass up.

I've started a few smaller projects using it, and have found that the project sponsors really respond to key indicators like SPI and CPI took a bit of coaching).

Does anyone else use EVM frequently in their large project work? What are some of the drawbacks?

Hi Justin,

You've just touched on one of the major obstacles.

Buy-in and adoption from the CAMs right through to your Executive and beyond, is essential should anyone decide they want to head down the EVM route.

You can be compliant with every one of the thirty-two ANSI 748 guidelines, you can have total control over your scope and baseline, you can produce all the performance metrics you like, but it will all come to nought, if your organisation doesn’t understand how to use the information being presented.

Achieving a consistent level of Project Management Maturity prior to attempting EVM wouldn't do an organisation any harm either.

I wish you every success in your EVMS implementation.

Hi Darren,

Thanks, for the response. You've kind of nailed where i'm at.

We've got a little ways to go to say that it's been "adopted" by our senior leaders...but they're open to it.

Our PMO wants to incorporate a solid standard of work and we're getting there
