I also used the Rita Mulcahy book and the PMBOK and passed the exam with one attempt. I suggest PMBOK for basics and a solid foundation. Then use Rita's book. Also, pay attention to practice questions. Saving Changes...

PMBOK is the best knowledge source for preparation of the PMP exam. You may refer other books but PMBOK is quite comprehensive and detailed. More the attention you pay to the PMBOK the more it will be beneficial for clearing the exam.
You need 2 books. The PMBOK is by default the de facto text book that will get you through PMP. Apart from this you need to have an additional text book, handy. I found Head First to be a much better option. Its fun to read and drills the concepts nicely.
But at the end of the day, PMBOK is the book you must be thorough with. Read 'atleast' 2 times and am sure you will get through the exam. Saving Changes...
