Personally, I’ve been using AI tools in my day-to-day project management tasks, and while they definitely improve efficiency and help with routine tasks like scheduling or reporting, I find that the human touch—especially when it comes to creative problem-solving and team dynamics—cannot be replaced. I’m curious to hear how others have managed to strike a balance between utilizing AI for operational tasks while still fostering creativity and critical thinking within their teams.

Given the questionable quality of AI tool outputs when it comes to creative tasks, it is important to keep reinforcing that they are assistants to the team, not replacements. We can't delegate creative activities to them, but they can assist us by providing options or critiquing decisions.

Great topic, Gitashree.
I’ve experienced this balance firsthand while managing operations-heavy projects in the water treatment and chemical sectors. AI tools have helped streamline routine activities—like demand forecasting, production scheduling, and even warehouse analytics.

But when it comes to team creativity, leadership decisions, or problem-solving under pressure, the human touch is irreplaceable.

Here’s what’s worked for me:
1.AI as a baseline, not the final voice – I treat AI outputs as starting points. Decisions still go through collaborative review.
2.Intentional space for human judgment – In team huddles, I ask for what the system didn’t catch—often that’s where real innovation lies.
3.Blend of tech and mentorship – I upskill teams on using AI, while also mentoring them on people skills, negotiation, and process thinking.

The key is to use AI as an amplifier, not a substitute. We must deliberately preserve the “human core” of leadership.

When I started working in this matter in a big (very big) company we create all related to project management in paper and the paper covered the whole wall in a big office (several meters long). So, nothing new below the sun. Right now we do not need paper and wall to work in project management. At this time we used AI. More than 40 years ago. All are tools, no more than that.
