The Lehman Brothers Collapse is a globally relevant example of the potential impacts of loss of trust and reputation. Take a look at this YouTube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z07RZUdEOqc

As project managers, it is critical to earn a reputation as a consummate professional. Reputation builds trust. Trust builds confidence. Confidence creates the ideal environment for project and personal success.

How did you earn your reputation? What tips can you share?

If we take the Tuckman model, trust is built through a process of Storming, Forming, Norming, and Performing.

We can expected to go through all of these stages in team and trust building. What I have found very helpful is to set some explicit ground rules early in the game. These rules must be impartially enforced. And hidden agendas must not be tolerated.

Your team will thank you for the positive atmosphere with greater cohesion and productivity.

I personally rely on Honesty.

In "The speed of trust" (one of my very favourite book), honesty is described as follows:
"it includes not only telling the truth, but also leaving the right impression"

Being honest is NOT just telling the truth, and people should avoid to be blunt just the sake of it. I've hear too many times other leaders addressing issues and feedback in the wrong way and concluding with "Sorry guys, I'm just honest"

I think my reputation has built upon my honesty with the team, with the customer, been able to say motivated "no" when needed.
Fabio, I personally am all for honesty and trust being earned at a very early stage of any relationship. Awesome articles.
