But honestly — how did you know you were really ready for the exam? After the course, I still feel completely unprepared… And it’s not because the training was bad — quite the opposite! The instructor was great, the material was clear, and everything was well organized.

It’s just that I came from engineering and economics into project management, so my way of thinking is quite different. Of course, I’m learning and growing. The projects I’ve managed in practice as a leader are one thing, but formal education and structured training is a whole different level.

I feel like I’m ready for PMP, but I’m still not sure if I want to or can pass the exam.

So here’s my question for you:
— How did you know it was time to take the exam?
— Did you ever have that “I’m ready, but I’m doubting myself” feeling?
— Or am I the only one who’s both smart and indecisive? 😅

Would love to hear your advice and stories!

Hi Darya,
PM Golden Rule number 1: You will never feel ready.
Go for it once you score over 85% at your mock exams. Good Luck.

Hi Darya
we always feel not ready, however, this give us the reason to practice and review what we had learned through the preparation journey

Hi Darya,

Did you take the exam yet? I took it this past weekend and thought I was ready, but sadly, I didn't pass one of the sections, so will have to do it again... not relishing the idea as it was a challenging and exhausting test, but at least I got a very small amount of feedback telling me which area(s) need the most work (was at target for one, above target for another and below target for the third). So, am hoping to keep studying (after a short break) and want to take it again before end of the year... Thankfully, I do get a couple more tries if needed.

Like you, my background is with different language (as an architect and landscape architect). Though I've been a project manager most of my 40-year career, it has been like learning a new language. I took two different prep courses and put in lots of hours studying, but apparently, I'm still not there. Disheartening, but not insurmountable.
