PMI Community Applications, Or Lack Thereof

Greetings Community!

My name is Steve, a long-time Project Manager (with other disciplines sprinkled in) and a newcomer to the PMI community. I aim to earn my PMP by 2025 or by early 2026 at the latest. Needless to say, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and appreciate everyone's kindness thus far, many thanks!

I am currently unemployed, so while I am looking for my next role, I am taking some courses here at PMI and I have acquired my physical copy of the 7th edition PMBOK (in spiral-bound format, of course) to read daily. However, I was looking for some additional tools that may enhance my journey.

I was surprised at the lack of supporting applications PMI has, and the one that does exist, "Study Hall", does not seem to work correctly as far as I can tell. That forced me to look elsewhere, such as an app called "Pocket Prep," which receives excellent reviews and boasts high success rates.

Outside the primary materials of the PMBOK 7th Edition and Charter Study Groups, what other tools or ways have you used to study for the PMP exam? I was curious if I could have "PMI Infinity" generate fake tests and act as a teacher, for example, which I did try on ChatGPT.

It's a pleasure to meet you all. Any tips and tricks you may have would be welcome! If you would like to connect as well, I would greatly appreciate it. Have a great day, everyone!

Warm Regards,
Steve

Steve -

The one thing you will want to support your PMP journey is a set of good quality practice exams. Those will help you establish your current baseline of competency and then provide a gauge as to how your studying is going.

While there are freely available ones out there, and you could certainly get a Gen AI tool to generate some questions for you, you'll get much more out of one of the paid offerings.

Steve, this is what I recommend for your PMP journey:

1) Read through the Exam Content Outline (ECO), PMBOK 7th Edition and new PMI Process Group Guide which is important and relevant as well in my opinion.

2) Purchase Rita Mulcahy’s PMP Exam Prep Book (currently the 11th edition, but please verify). It's one of the most effective resources for understanding key concepts deeply and bridging any knowledge gaps.

3) PM PrepCast Simulator Package – This is an excellent set of mock exams that will help you prepare well. Practice with it as much as you can.

4) If you’re looking for a self-paced course, Joseph Phillips’ PMP courses on Udemy are well-structured, clear, and very affordable. They’re great for reinforcing your understanding of key topics.

Good Luck!
