There’s a serious gap in the film and television industry—and it’s the absence of true project managers. ðŸŽ¬

While creativity fuels the art, structure sustains the production. The role of a project manager is deeply embedded in multiple media positions—especially the line producer, who often manages scope, schedule, budget, risk, and communication without ever being called a "PM." Yet, few of us are formally trained in project management principles like PMI frameworks or Agile methodologies.

🎯 As someone preparing for my PMP® certification and transitioning from film to project management, I see clearly how undervalued this role is—and how much impact it could have if fully embraced.

Are there any certified PMPs in the film/media/entertainment industry willing to mentor or share insights? I’d love to learn how you’ve merged both worlds successfully.

Let’s build the bridge between structure and storytelling. 🎥📊

This is a case of a "rose by any other name" and happens in a number of industries. Event management is one example - under the surface a significant proportion of that is project management even though it is not referred to as that.

The good news in this is that core PM skills are very portable between different verticals.

I worked from years in the role of program manager in one of the biggest companies, related to tv and other media, in south america and caribean. Nothing new below the sun. It is the sama than in other domains. Just to remember: you always are performing project management but with different degree of formality and the key is to select how much formality you will apply in the environment you are working on. And that includes the personal life.
