Learning by experience be it own or others is mandatory. First one stops us from repeating our own mistakes and the later prevents us from making a new mistake. It all part of a learning curve.
This would require a PM to be a good listener and a good observer. Saving Changes...
Learning by experience for me means growing in the PM expertise as we accumulate experience intervening in different projects. There is always a project team for every project, and as a member of a project team, we do not only learn from our isolated roles in the project, but we learn form the whole project. This is very important if we are able to really document the lessons learnt for use in future projects.
Also, by using lessons learnt from previous project (implemented by others) in a new one, we are able to learn from other people's experiences to optimize our project performance and results. Saving Changes...

Learning from others is definitely important - that's really why we are all here in this forum! Unless you are working your entire career on very standard "cookie-cutter" projects, you will always come across challenges that you have no experience of no matter how wide and deep your experience, and leveraging off others is definitely preferable to going it alone, re-inventing the wheel, and making the same mistakes others have! agree with all. Learning from others experience very valuable for own growth. Saving Changes...
A key skill of project managers is continuous learning. We must be able to analyze problems, identify solutions and make decisions. Unless you are doing template projects, each new project will have its unique context and challenges.
You should learn from various sources, but mostly, as a project managers, you should develop the skill of learning. Saving Changes...
