In scenarios where AI assists in generating project documentation, reports, code, or strategic plans (effectively acting as a co-author) the question of ultimate accountability becomes crucial. If an AI-generated component leads to an error, a misunderstanding, or even a project failure, who bears the responsibility: the project manager, the AI developer, or the organization? Clarifying these boundaries of ownership and accountability is vital for managing risk and establishing clear governance in AI-assisted project environments.

Even if there is a contractual obligation related to quality on a third-party, the accountability rests with the PM and then with the performing organization (if the project is being done on behalf of a client).

This is the same as delegating work to a team member. As the PM, you might choose to hold them accountable for their work products, but your leadership and your client will hold YOU accountable for any failures.
