This is a great question, Francisco. Thanks for posting!
From what I’ve observed during my time working in PMI's online community, people join for many reasons. Some are looking to learn from peers and experts, others want to expand their professional network, and many are seeking a place to share their own knowledge and experiences.
I'm looking forward to hearing other community members weigh in on this topic. Your insights can help new members feel more connected and inspired as they begin their own journey here. Saving Changes...
Hello Francisco and Laura,
Thanks for raising this important question. For me, the primary motivation to join the PMI Global Community was to connect with like-minded professionals who share a passion for project management and continuous learning. Being part of a global network offers diverse perspectives and insights that help me grow both personally and professionally.
I expect to gain knowledge from experts, exchange best practices, and contribute back by sharing my own experiences. It’s a place to stay updated with industry trends while building meaningful professional relationships.

What an excellent question! For me, there are two reasons I joined the PMI global community. First, I want to connect with other PM professionals and grow my network. Second, I want to learn from those who are more experienced than I am. We all have unique backgrounds with diverse experiences that shape how we approach project management. I want to listen and learn how I can become a better PM by incorporating new tools and mindsets into my projects. Saving Changes...
I have essentially the same reasoning as Talia above me. I want to grow my network and learn alongside other experienced PM professionals that are more experienced than I am. By looking at different perspectives, we are truly able to pad our own education from all sides. I can't wait to continue to grow as a PM! Saving Changes...
Hello Francisco,
Great point. Many expectations with slight difference, but I'd say the two below in my case:
1. Learning new trends and technologies in around my industry with new POV.
2. Building professional network with all the experienced colleagues across the world.
I must say I'm very excited to join the global community. Saving Changes...
I originally joined the PMI Global Community while preparing for my PMP certification. At the time, I was looking for advice, tips, and insights from others who had already walked that path. What I didn’t expect was how quickly I would feel connected and inspired by the community.
After earning my PMP, I wanted to stay involved and give back. I began participating in discussions and volunteered to deliver a webinar with Yasmina Khelifi . I connected here with Aaron Porter that step led me to engage with my local chapter, PMI Northern Utah, through some early collaborations.
The real turning point came when I attended an in-person PMI global event. There was a Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) happening at the same time that the main conference, and I had the chance to meet board members from the PMI Northern Utah Chapter in person. I also visited the "Ask the Expert" booth (There was a booth with the headliners of this community like Kiron Bondale and suddenly my virtual engagement and local volunteering felt like they had come together in one place. It was a powerful moment that made everything feel more connected and real.
Since then, I have continued my collaborations with PMI. I served as Community Champion here and had a few roles at PMI Northern Utah Board.
My expectations are high, but PMI consistently delivers. Whether it is virtual or in person, local or global, there is always space to contribute, to grow, and to feel that you belong to something meaningful. Something that can create real impact in the community.
Long story short, I came here simply to learn, and almost ten years later, I’m still here, sometimes helpful others being a little "troublemaker".
The journey has been full of growth, opportunities, and genuine connections that continue to motivate me to stay involved and give back.
I initially joined the community to maintain my PMP certification, and I also had questions about project management. So it was from a selfish point of view. Then, from 2018, I discovered volunteering, and my life was never the same. I could meet new friends like Mayte, with whom I've been collaborated with such a great pleasure across the miles. And since then, I have collaborated and exchanged with many people here.
The key is to engage in discussions, comments, and webinars, and to connect with people online.
It's a FANTASTIC, safe, and worldwide community where I learned and laughed a lot!

It's great to see the group! My involvement with PMI began in 2013. Honestly, my focus at the time was to obtain the PMP certification, as it was a significant professional differentiator back then. Twelve years later, I've noticed that PMP and MBA are now often prerequisites for most Project Manager position
