A vendor product has been selected for possible use/customization in my organization. I'm project manager and next week will assemble a working group of representatives from the business areas to prepare for and execute a Proof of Concept.
Who has gone through this, what are your pointers, and what do I need to look out for? Saving Changes...

Good first step - organizing cross functional work groups to work on the implementation. First I would map the workflow as it is today. Then re-map the workflows with the vendor's product in place. Next, simulate processes and transactions on a test system and begin documenting the functional gaps that might exist with the product related to the company's specific needs. That will give you the baseline of customizations that need to be made to the product and also help the users to buy into the change. Make sure MIS is involved from an Operations view too. They will need to integrate the new product into their support processes and computer room operations and run books. Saving Changes...
