We do measure a project's Grade of Service using certain metrics such as investment performance to budget, finish performance to schedule and labor performance to estimate but, those metrics don't really give an indication to the PM of their specific success. In what specific ways can we measure PM success? Saving Changes...

In short - PM may be rated against Plan vs. Actual of 3 key dimensions of project management - Scope, Time and Cost. Saving Changes...

We use customer satisfaction scoring to rate the way the project was done (not necessarily the deliverables).
Have tended to focus on stakeholder & sponsor feedback, and whether the team is working well together, but it is not always easy to be fully informed.
I also wonder if any PM or PPM software has any reporting that could be of use- e.g. %ge of tasks that were completed on time, number of changes to plan, resource allocation % actual v planned, etc. Does anyone use Clarity or HP PPM, perhaps those do this?

Yes. We do use CA Clarity PPM. It does measure project performance based on those standard PM elements: scope, schedule & budget. I guess I'm looking for the softer, fuzzier side of project management success. Is it enough for PMs to know that they met the metrics? I'll check out the links you've suggested and I appreciate your feedback :) Saving Changes...
