What is difference and objective of Perform Quality Assurance and Quality control processes.

Tool & Techniques for both the processes is same so it's also adding up to my confusion.

hi Anil,

As you might have noticed from PMBOK Guide that Perform Quality Assurance is in the EXECUTION Process Group , whereas Control Quality is in the MONITORING & CONTROLLING Process Group.

Here is a link to the Youtube video presentation by Saket Bansal of iZenBridge. Please have a look to clear your doubt.

You may join some PM Forums like :
a) I want to be a PMP (in Linkedin)
b) iZenBridge
c) PMZilla etc.

They are very active Project Management Forums for PMP Exam preparation.

Thanks and best regards,

Ranjit

Hi Anil,

Perform Quality Control: The process of monitoring and recording results of executing the quality activities to assess performance and recommend necessary changes. This process uses the tool of INSPECTION to make sure the results of the work are what they are supposed to be. (FOCUS ON PROCESSES IMPROVEMENT)

Perform Quality Control is the process where each deliverable is INSPECTED, MEASURED, and TESTED. This process makes sure that everything produced meets quality standards. "Perform the MEASUREMENTS and COMPARE to specific quality standards; IDENTIFY ways of eliminating the problem in the future". (FOCUS ON FINAL PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT)

Thanks Ranjit and Wei Ken ho for your inputs. I have gone through both the answers and also the video pointed out by Ranjit. So if I understood it correctly , So whenever it is said Quality is planned in and not inspected in , it means more inputs or effort should be made during Perform Quality Assurance Process that deals with developing quality standards which can be used in multiple projects. Am I right ?

In Perform Quality Assurance Process we do not develop Quality Standards , rather Audit whether the Quality Standards developed earlier in the Plan Quality Management Process have been followed or complied or not.

@Ranjit .. Thanks

I have a question suppose we have developed a quality standard in Plan Quality Management. and now to in the Perform Quality Assurance team is following the standard. But before following the Standard will the standard be validated ? if yes then in which process ?

If you refer to Page # 234 Paras 8.1.1.5 & 8.1.1.6 of PMBOK Guide Fifth Edition , it is clear that Project Specific Quality Standards and Policies are selected/developed and get endorsed or approved in this Plan Quality Management Process only. If any subsequent changes to the Standard or Policy is needed later on, then it has to follow the Perform Integrated Change Control process. This is my understanding.
