On August 05,2025, I successfully defended my MBA thesis. Working full time and travelling more the 300Km on weekends for lectures was quite grueling.
In all, my PM mindset was a strong contributing factor in this 2 year journey.
I'm glad I'm PMP. My "when to do what and how to do it" was seriously strengthened and again I can confirm , PM mindset can be operationalized daily. Saving Changes...
Congratulations on your thesis defense! What was the topic of the thesis? Most MBA programs in North America don't require a thesis (course work only) so was this a special requirement of your university or program?
The beauty of gaining competency in PM power or technical skills is that those will be of value in many different contexts from avoiding conflicts at home, to negotiating for a better deal on a car purchase to planning a move.

Your reflection is a powerful example of how the PM mindset extends beyond projects into life journeys.
The discipline of when to do what and how to do it is exactly what transforms demanding challenges into structured progress.
I especially appreciate how you highlighted the combination of professional certification (PMP®) and academic pursuit.
It shows that project management is not just a set of tools but a way of thinking that strengthens resilience, time management, and decision-making.
Your story also reminds us that project management is not confined to organizations — it is equally applicable to personal growth, learning, and transitions.
Thank you for sharing such an inspiring demonstration of PM as a life skill.

Congratulations on successfully defending your thesis, Kwiyuh!
Balancing a demanding academic program with full-time work and travel is no small feat, and it’s inspiring to hear how your project management mindset supported you through it. I completely agree that PM skills like prioritization, planning, and sequencing tasks (“when to do what and how”) are invaluable beyond projects, they become life tools. Your experience reinforces how adaptable PM principles are, whether in academia, career, or daily challenges. Thank you for sharing this, it’s a great reminder that our certification and training extend far beyond the workplace.

Congrats, i like your way of thinking. I belive that PM knowledge may be helpful in all initiavites, as the idea to projectize all initiavies. Not all deserve full detailling, but for sure PM knowledge is helpful.
That’s a huge milestone 🎉 Balancing work, travel, and studies takes real discipline. I agree PM skills like planning, prioritizing, and managing constraints are not just for projects, but for life. Your story is a great reminder of that.
