I have Project Management background. I have been told that I use great methodologies and am quite effective. I have a large data warehousing project under my belt, as my first real tech project. So, I am now a Technical Project Lead and am working on my first software development (for a brand new product) project. The deadlines were set unrealistically, and I have to meet them. How can I learn more about managing this type of project on such a tight deadline, with no experience in this area, and no funding for professional development?

WHen I found myself where you were their were three things I did that helped me...

1. Get a copy of Rapid Development and The Software Project Survival Guide.
2. Be honest, painfully honest if necessary about the condition of your project.
3. This is the hard one. Unless you are sure absolutely that something is going to be done on time assume it won't be.

and a new one. Keep reading and learning.
